Prior to the winter transfer window opening, it was suggested Liverpool could U-turn on Guehi and plot a January raid.

However, it has now emerged in the last week that Manchester City want the Crystal Palace defender as well.

Liverpool’s view on Marc Guehi transfer fee hasn’t changed

Oliver Glasner commented on Man City bidding for Guehi in a press conference on Tuesday, suggesting Palace would allow the player to leave for the right fee.

Now, an insight into how much Liverpool would pay for the stopper this month has been shared by Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol.

It is believed that the Reds will not offer more than the £35m fee they saw rejected by the Eagles in the summer.

He said: “They only turned their attention to Mark Guehi pretty late on and also they didn’t really increase the offer they had on the table.

“So, I don’t think there was that burning desire from Liverpool to do the deal quickly in the summer.

“That is why I think it didn’t happen. I’m not sure whether the situation has changed uh this January, whether they’ll be moving any quicker or offering any more.

“They won’t be offering more than 35m, of course, because potentially the price has dropped because he’s only got less than 6 months left on his contract.

What Arne Slot has said about Liverpool signing Marc Guehi

It remains to be seen if Liverpool will challenge Manchester City for Guehi this winter.

Slot was asked about signing the player in his pre-Arsenal press conference on January 7, but gave little away.

He said: “I don’t talk about transfers in public, let alone talk about players from another club.

“There’s no use asking me that question because we don’t talk about players that aren’t ours.”
