Wolves boss Rob Edwards will be looking to freshen up his squad over the coming weeks before the deadline
Wolves remain rock bottom of the Premier League table after 20 fixtures. It has been a disastrous season for the Midlands club and they have only six points on the board. They are in the relegation zone along with West Ham and Burnley and have won only once in this campaign.
Wolves attacker Mateus Mane eyed by Chelsea and Manchester City
Wolves attacker Mateus Mane has emerged on the radar of Chelsea and Manchester City this winter, according to former Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers chief scout Mick Brown. The forward is being tipped for a bright future in the game. His current club could face a battle to keep hold of him amid attention from elsewhere.
Brown has shared this update, as per a report by Football Insider: “Mateus Mane playing the way he has for Wolves is certainty going to attract interest. Whenever an 18-year-old bursts onto the scene and puts in some impressive displays in the Premier League, it’s going to attract interest from the bigger clubs. You can bet the likes of Chelsea, Man City, those types of clubs will be looking at him.
“Almost every Premier League club will be looking at Wolves at the moment, assessing which players might be available when they eventually go down. Wolves then have to make the decision when they go down, will they be able to keep hold of their star players in the hope they can come back up? Or will they have to sell? It’s a decision they will have to make at the end of the season, but Mane looks a real prospect at his age, and I have no doubt these clubs will be aware.”
Will Wolves be able to keep hold of Mateus Mane amid interest from elsewhere?
Wolves won’t want to lose Mane, especially halfway through this term. He is under contract until June 2029 so they are under no immediate pressure to sell him anytime soon and can hold out for big money. The teenager has made nine league appearances to date and has chipped in with one goal and one assist.
Mane, 18, arrived back in 2024 following spells at Barreirense and Rochdale. He has since been a regular at various different youth levels and has worked his way up into the first-team picture. The ex-England youth international has since become an important player under Edwards and will be enjoying his run in the team.
Chelsea could see him as someone capable of performing for them down the line. They have recently turned to Liam Rosenior as their replacement for Enzo Maresca after his eye-catching work in France at Strasbourg. Meanwhile, Manchester City may have identified him as someone to boost their attacking department under Pep Guardiola.
