Report: The real reason why Stefan Bajcetic still hasn’t returned to the Liverpool first-team after long-term injury

Stefan Bajcetic is held in very high regard at Liverpool, but things have gone very quiet about his return to the first-team.

The Reds have a number of highly-talented youngsters coming through the ranks, and Bajcetic is one of those who is tipped to be in Arne Slot’s plans more than most.

He went on loan to Las Palmas but picked up a hamstring injury in May, with this being what has ruled him out ever since.

However, he has been on the mend and was expected to be a part of Liverpool’s first-team by now, but he simply has not been.

The reason why was largely ambiguous until now, with it not being the news that fans would have been hoping to hear.

Stefan Bajcetic suffered another injury blow during rehabilitation

Bajcetic burst onto the scene under Jurgen Klopp and ever since, fans have been desperate to see him play again, showing just how good an impression he made.

They have had to be very patient, though, as he has not played for the Reds for 613 days, with it looking like he would play some part this season.

However, according to The Athletic, this is now unlikely after he suffered another injury setback during his recovery plan, with it likely that he will now only feature for the U21s this season.

The report states that he picked up a fresh hamstring injury and that his plan to feature before Christmas was thwarted because of this.

He is likely to be available at the very end of this month, however, although due to needing to regain fitness levels and sharpness, he will likely not feature for the first-team until next season.

Liverpool might have to cut their losses with Stefan Bajcetic

There is no denying that Bajcetic is a real talent who could go all the way to the top, but availability is the best ability in football, and he is far too unreliable at just 21 years old.

Picking up such frequent injuries at his age despite barely playing is a real worry, and based on how far Liverpool have come in terms of individual quality since he made his debut, getting into the team only gets harder and harder.

He would likely be able to be sold for a little bit of money too given his reputation, so if he cannot kick on in the calendar year then it might be worth cashing in on him.

A buy-back or sell-on clause would not be a bad idea, though, given that he has a very high ceiling, but Liverpool are simply at the level now where they cannot wait around, they must keep moving forward.
