The Golden State Warriors are doing everything they can to make one final run at the NBA championship. It’s why they decided to make a trade for Jimmy Butler last season. Despite that trade, the Warriors sit just eighth in the Western Conference standings.

Even with Butler and Stephen Curry, the Warriors still need help offensively. They have just the 20th-best offense in the league. Golden State clearly needs some help on that end of the floor, because its defense is holding up just fine. The Warriors have the sixth-best defense in the NBA.

All of these factors mean that Golden State is one of the teams to watch when the trade deadline rolls around. They have been linked as a possible trade destination for Anthony Davis as the Mavericks canvass the league to see if it makes sense to part ways with him.

Warriors Listed as Possible Trade Destination for Anthony Davis

Bleacher Report has Golden State listed as a realistic fit for Davis if he ends up getting moved. The biggest hurdle to the Warriors acquiring Davis would be the massive contract that Davis is owed. Golden State is just over $11 million away from the second apron.

Jonathan Kuminga is the only obvious trade asset that the Warriors want to part ways with. Dallas is in need of a good, young player in return for Davis, but it would be hard to swallow to have Kuminga as the centerpiece in a trade for him. Trading Luka Doncic for essentially Kuminga would be a bad look.

Davis’ lack of durability has driven down his trade value, which is why the Warriors have a realistic shot at making a trade for him. Of course, Butler is also someone who has some issues playing the entirety of a regular season, as well.

The Warriors Will Likely Make a Trade at the Deadline

Even if Golden State doesn’t bring in Davis, they will likely make some move at the trade deadline. They are too desperate to make one last run at a title, so they have to bring someone in to help their struggling offense, even if it hurts their future.

Curry is a generational player. As long as he is still playing well, the Warriors have to go all-in to win a title. Draymond Green is not a good offensive player anymore, but his defense is still really good. If the Warriors can add another offensive weapon, they would be a dangerous out in the playoffs.

Mike Dunleavy Jr. is the person in charge of making these decisions. It would be shocking if Golden State didn’t make at least one move at the deadline to improve the offensive identity of the team down the stretch. A big trade is not out of the question.

It’s not certain that the Mavs will move Davis at the deadline, but he is certainly someone the Warriors would be fine with adding.
