Liverpool favourite John Arne Riise has spoken to the Norwegian media with regards to Ole Gunnar Solskjær being re-appointed as Manchester United manager.
The Old Trafford legend has been linked with the caretaker role since the sacking of Ruben Amorim this week. Norwegian newspaper VG reported on Wednesday morning that Solskjær could sign a contract as soon as Friday.
Speaking to Nettavisen, Riise was asked his thoughts about his compatriot having a second managerial spell at Manchester United.
The Liverpool cult hero believes unheralded Solskjær was a success during his time in charge of the Red Devils. He thinks people are now seeing what he was up against after taking the job in 2018 before being sacked.
“Ole enjoys respect and I think people now see in retrospect what a job he actually did last time and what he had to contend with. There was a lot behind the scenes that people didn’t know and understand before he was fired. But they now see that what Ole did was very good,” said Riise.
Following Amorim[‘s departure on Monday, Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team for tonight’s clash with Burnley. A longer term interim in then expected to arrive, staying at least until the end of the season.
Solskjær spent nearly three years as Manchester United manager, leading them to second place in the Premier League during the 2020/21 season.
However, after a poor run of results in 2021 the Norwegian was replaced by Carrick and then Ralf Rangnick. Erik ten Haag was eventually named as his long term successor.
