Chelsea’s new manager makes a big promise that will get fans very excited

We’ve already covered large chunks of Liam Rosenior’s first interview as Chelsea boss, but we’re going to continue as it’s just so good.

He knows just what fans want to hear to get them excited, and his quotes are almost tailored to get Blues fans excited for the years to come. It remains to be seen what he can actually deliver, but we can’t deny we’re curious about this change.

There’s been a lot of doubts about Chelsea’s youth first policy, but Rosenior played the situation diplomatically by pointing out how it can be a good thing:

“I come from a club where our average age, I think, was 20.8 years, the youngest in Europe. Here, I think we are a little bit older and a little bit wiser but strength in youth is energy, it’s application, it’s fitness, it’s intensity,” the coach said.

“These are all things that I want the fans to see. I want us to play high-tempo, aggressive, front-foot football.”

We’d love to see some of that after a spell where Enzo Maresca had us playing some truly stultifying, passive football. Of course these things are easy to promise and hard to enact – but it at least shows that Rosenior knows what the fans want to hear, which is the the first step to delivering it.

In other news…

We’ve already predicted that Andrey Santos could be one of the big winners of Rosenior’s appointment, and the coach all but confirmed that with his answer on players he knew from the past.

The new coach also spoke about what he was most excited about bringing to Chelsea, with support from the Stamford Bridge crowd sure to be a vital part of his time at the club.
