The Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Pelicans reportedly remain the two biggest trade suitors for Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga ahead of the Feb. 5 deadline.

As the D-Day for when Kuminga can be traded — Jan. 15 — approaches, ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel noted both the Kings and Pelicans have held “strong interest” in the Congolese forward since the summer and still view him as an attractive piece.

The report named the Chicago Bulls as a team “with some level of interest,” but not to the degree of the Kings and Pelicans, who “stand out” among the Kuminga suitors.

In recent weeks, Yahoo Sports’ Kevin O’Connor named the Portland Trail Blazers and Washington Wizards as other potential Kuminga suitors, while The Athletic’s Sam Amick named the Dallas Mavericks.

Jonathan Kuminga Trade Market

All in all, it appears a sizeable market may be developing for Kuminga, whose risk-free contract contains a Team Option for 2026-27, making him an attractive piece. Per league insiders, some teams could be prepared to give Kuminga a three-month trial run at the tail end of the season before evaluating his future over the offseason. Some teams may also use the opportunity to dump long-term money to a desperate team like the Warriors, who are exploring all avenues to add help around Stephen Curry.

Besides Kuminga, the Warriors are reportedly also shopping Moses Moody, Buddy Hield and Brandin Podziemski in potential deals, per Forbes’ Evan Sidery.

Warriors Trade Interests

Kuminga — who has been DNP’ed by Warriors head coach Steve Kerr since Dec. 18 — has been held out strategically, according to ClutchPoints. The fifth-year forward conveniently appeared on the injury list ahead of a recent game when the Warriors sat out Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler III.

“Kuminga and his camp believe it is in his best interest to stay ready behind the scenes and no longer let Kerr’s decisions regarding the young forward’s minutes impact his value in the eyes of other teams that have interest in him around the league. Not to mention, Kuminga’s side doesn’t want to risk him getting injured,” wrote Siegel.

“Many believe this is the reason Kuminga decided not to play recently despite the Warriors’ lengthy injury report against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Jan. 2. Kuminga was ruled out of this game with a back injury that Kerr didn’t seem to have any update or details on in his postgame comments.”

Kuminga began the season in scorching form, averaging 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds from 30.8 minutes through his first six games. However, he lost his starting role within the first month and ultimately a spot in Kerr’s rotation by late November. In December, he averaged just 16.7 minutes in four appearances.
