Chelsea are hoping to back Liam Rosenior in the winter
Chelsea confirmed the appointment of Liam Rosenior as the club’s new manager earlier this week after securing his arrival from Strasbourg. Following the decision to part ways with Enzo Maresca on New Year’s Eve, the Blues were keen to bring in a head coach who would fully align with the club’s ambitions.
The decision to appoint Rosenior appeared straightforward, given the impressive work he had done at sister club RC Strasbourg this season. The Englishman guided the Ligue 1 side to seventh place in the table, collecting 24 points from their opening 17 matches of the campaign. Securing the highly rated 41-year-old was also relatively uncomplicated, as Rosenior was open to taking charge of a club of Chelsea’s stature following Maresca’s departure.

It is fair to say that Chelsea have underachieved in the Premier League this season despite spending heavily on new players in the summer. The Blues currently sit fifth in the table with 31 points, three adrift of fourth-placed Liverpool. As a result, Rosenior faces a significant challenge as he looks to secure Champions League qualification and help the club meet its objectives by the end of the season.
Chelsea want to bring Real Madrid star Trent Alexander-Arnold to Stamford Bridge in the winter
It has become increasingly clear that Chelsea need defensive reinforcements this winter as they aim to close the gap on their rivals. The right-back position is one area in need of attention, with the Blues lacking depth on that side of the pitch. Malo Gusto has been deployed in the role so far, but the Frenchman has struggled to push forward consistently and influence games in the final third.
According to Fichajes, Chelsea are hoping to sign Real Madrid star Trent Alexander-Arnold during the winter window. The Blues are reportedly open to a loan deal with an obligation to buy the defender permanently in the summer. Rosenior is said to be urging the club to test the waters for the England international’s signature. The same report suggests that Los Blancos are reluctant to let him leave at this stage, although they may consider offers in the region of €40m.
Rosenior wants his full-backs to operate higher up the pitch and make aggressive forward runs in wide areas. Chelsea believe that signing Alexander-Arnold could help transform their Premier League fortunes and allow the new manager to implement his tactical ideas from the outset. Bringing in the 27-year-old would also provide the Blues with a proven Premier League performer capable of influencing matches at both ends of the pitch.
Will Chelsea show the same ambition they have demonstrated under Todd Boehly and make a move to bring Trent Alexander-Arnold to Stamford Bridge, or is this an unrealistic prospect for the Blues? Only time will tell.
