Wolves will be weighing up the player’s long-term future with the January transfer window now open for business
Wolves have the chance to bring in some new faces before the end of the transfer window. Rob Edwards will be looking to put his own stamp on the squad with some signings over the coming weeks.
The former Luton Town and Middlesbrough man also has the opportunity to let players head out the exit door as well if needed to free up space and funds for reinforcements.
The Midlands outfit return to Premier League action on Wednesday night with an away trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium to play Everton. They won 3-0 at home to West Ham last time out. Jhon Arias, Hwang Hee-chan and Mateus Mane got their goals against the Hammers.
Chelsea’s updated stance on Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen outlined
Chelsea are not interested in Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, according to Si Phillips talks Chelsea. The London club were linked with a swoop for the attacker last summer. However, they are no longer keen on luring him down to Stamford Bridge.
Liam Rosenior has been appointed as their replacement for Enzo Maresca, who was sacked last week. The ex-Derby County and Hull City man has caught the eye in Ligue 1 with Strasbourg over recent times. He will now be eager to show what he can do with the Blues.
Strand Larsen, 25, is facing an uncertain future at Molineux at the moment. He has struggled for form this season and has found the net only three times in all competitions. The Norway international was snapped up for £23million last year but has since failed to make an impact.
He was a hit on loan with Wolves in the last campaign and found the net on 14 occasions. After his eye-catching first term, he said: "It's been a good first season in the Premier League. I'm proud of what I've done. I've been able to take the steps earlier than I've done before. Previously when I moved to a new country, I've needed more time to get into it and score goals.
“As a striker, the team need you to score the goals and be on the end of the crosses, so to score 14 goals – and come back after my injuries and a little dip of form – it was a good season for me in that respect."
What now for Jorgen Strand Larsen at Wolves?
Wolves would have a decision to make if an offer came in from elsewhere for Strand Larsen that matched his valuation. Things haven’t gone to plan for him since his full-time transfer from Celta Vigo. Therefore, an exit and a change of scene may do him good.
It remains to be seen at this stage who could potentially be interested in his services. Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are said to be admirers. It appears Chelsea have moved on though as they prepare for their new era under Rosenior. He lacks experience at the top level and will want to hit the ground running immediately after being picked as Maresca’s successor.
Wolves remain bottom of the table and are in the drop zone with West Ham and Burnley. They are crying out for some more quality in their squad. Edwards’ men are 15 points from safety behidn Nottingham Forest in 17th as they gear up to play Everton.
