Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has indicated the Gunners will be ready to spend in January if the opportunity arises. Arteta's side hold a six-point advantage at the top of the Premier League table after 20 games but have a test against reigning champions Liverpool on Thursday night.

While Arsenal continue to bide their time after a busy summer which saw the likes of Martin Zubimendi and Viktor Gyokeres complete big-money moves to North London, their rivals are looking to make early moves. Second-place Manchester City remain close to a £65million deal for Antoine Semenyo, who could be playing for the Cherries for the final time when they take on Tottenham on Wednesday.

After taking on Liverpool this week, Arteta's side have matches against Portsmouth in the FA Cup and Chelsea in the Carabao Cup before returning to league action against Nottingham Forest on January 17. By the time their next league outing rolls around, they may have decided to dip back into the transfer market after spending more than £200m over the summer.

For now, there appears to also be a focus on outgoings, be they permanent or on loan, as Arteta prepares to streamline his squad. Here are Mirror Football's latest transfer lines, including a big-money move for a player who divided opinion during an Arsenal stint of his own a few years ago.

Guendouzi closes in on move

Former Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi is on the verge of a permanent move to Fenerbahce. According to L'Equipe, an agreement in principle has been reached for the French international to move to Turkey in a deal worth up to £26,.

Guendouzi joined current club Lazio in 2023, initially signing on loan from Marseille in 2023 before completing a permanent switch 12 months later. He has made 15 Serie A appearances this season but Lazio are ready to cash in on a second player just days after selling striker Taty Castellanos to West Ham.

French international Guendouzi, 26, joined Arsenal under Unai Emery when he was still a teenager. He made 82 appearances in two seasons for the club but was frozen out by Mikel Arteta after an altercation with Brighton's Neal Maupay in a 2020 Premier League match.

That Brighton game would prove to be his last in English football but he has been able to rebuild his career since. He won his first senior France cap in 2021 while on loan at Marseille and now has 14 senior caps with Les Bleus, including an appearance at the 2022 World Cup.

Arsenal are prepared to entertain loan or permanent bids for Maldini Kacurri this month, according to The Athletic. The young centre-back has returned to North London after impressing on loan with National League side Morecambe.

Kacurri played 18 times for the non-league outfit, winning their player of the month award on two separate occasions. Clubs higher up the English football pyramid are said to be interested in the defender, who has one senior international cap for Albania but is out of contract in the summer.

The 20-year-old made his senior Arsenal debut last season, playing 20 minutes against Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup. He was also an unused substitute for several matches in the Premier League and two in the Champions League, including a league phase win over Paris Saint-Germain.

Fellow youngster Harrison Dudziak has also reportedly attracted interest. The 19-year-old midfielder is on loan at non-league Braintree Town until January 21 but could follow that with a spell in the EFL.
