Arsenal might have a quiet January but could a creative swap deal land a priority target?

Arsenal aren’t expected to be busy in this transfer window with Mikel Arteta happy to see familiar faces return to bolster the squad.

With no obvious weak areas to strengthen, there is no need for any last-minute panic buys at an inflated cost or going to plan B if plan A becomes unavailable. Priority signings can wait until the summer when there is more time to negotiate.

Arsenal swap deal that could land Tino Livramento

Neither player has ever let Arsenal down, but The Gunners boss wants the sort of options that make winning the Premier League a regular occurrence. With Timber being first choice, the obvious move would be for Arsenal to try and offload White and give him the game time that his talent deserves.

Newcastle would be reticent to lose a player who has established himself as a key player at St James’ Park and as a potential England player for the next 10 years. What might soften the blow is if White was offered as part of any deal to sign Livramento which would also ease their fears of having to replace a home-grown player to meet UEFA quotas.

White would also, probably, be happy with the sort of move where Champions League football is still a seasonal possibility and where silverware can also be competed for on a more regular basis.

Would Newcastle let Livramento leave?

Speaking on Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, former Premier League CEO Keith Wyness believes Howe is adamant that Livramento stays at the club: “Well, I think they’re going to try [to keep Livramento] and I think Livramento has stalled on his contract negotiations.

“So what Newcastle are finding themselves in is similar to the Isak situation where you’ve got a player holding out, and they’re going to have to take that into account and either resolve it or get it done quickly.

“Now, it depends on what Man City are offering in terms of money. I know that Eddie Howe rates Livramento very highly. He would like to almost build a team around him. And he’s the right age for them to do that.”

Either way, Livramento, as one of England’s most promising talents, wouldn’t come cheap. Offering White could be a proposal that suits all parties and greases the wheels of negotiation.
