FC Barcelona are set to face off against Athletic Club in a little over an hour in Jeddah in the semifinal of the Spanish Super Cup.
Ahead of kickoff, manager Hansi Flick has announced the starting lineup that will step out to face Ernesto Valverdeβs men, with some surprises in store.
The biggest news is that star forward Lamine Yamal has been left out on the bench after he did not train with the group on Tuesday due to some minor physical issues.
It was expected that the 18-year-old wonderkid would start despite that, but Flick has opted to err on the side of caution with the winger.
In his place, Roony Bardghji starts on the right flank for the Catalan giants. Meanwhile, Fermin Lopez also returns to the team, slotting in as the No. 10, allowing Raphinha to return to the left wing. Ferran Torres starts as the centre-forward once again.
Meanwhile, in midfield, Pedri starts after featuring as a substitute in the Catalan derby last weekend. The Spanish maestro is paired up with Frenkie de Jong, as Eric Garcia moves into the heart of the defence.
Garcia partners Pau Cubarsi at centre-back, meaning Gerard Martin has been benched, while Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde occupy the full-back positions. Joan Garcia retains his place in goal.
