Juventus have been heavily linked with a move for Federico Chiesa, who is currently struggling for regular game time at Liverpool. The Italy international has found minutes hard to come by under Arne Slot, and a return to Serie A is increasingly being viewed as the most realistic option.
Liverpool signed Chiesa as their only summer addition in 2024, a season that ultimately ended in Premier League glory. It was also Slot’s first campaign in charge following the departure of long-serving manager Jurgen Klopp.
Despite delivering several encouraging performances when called upon, Chiesa has largely been used sparingly by the Dutchman this season.
The winger made a bright start to the season, scoring the winning goal against Bournemouth, and many supporters have since called for him to be given a more prominent role. However, Slot has so far resisted those demands, limiting Chiesa’s involvement.
Speculation surrounding a January move has intensified, particularly with Chiesa requiring regular football to remain in contention for Italy’s World Cup plans.
Interest from Serie A has been strong, with Napoli and AS Roma both expressing admiration for the player, while Juventus have initiated formal talks with Liverpool over a potential transfer.
According to Calciomercato, a return to Juventus is a genuine possibility. Chiesa is understood to be open to rejoining the Turin-based club, whom he left around 18 months ago. Much has changed since his departure, and the forward is ready to wear the black and white again.
The 28-year-old is leaning towards returning to Italy. Former Juventus captain Giorgio Chiellini remains an influential figure following their shared success at Euro 2021. However, a deal is not yet close, with negotiations still required between the two clubs.
Liverpool have so far rejected proposals for a loan move with an option to buy, instead favouring either a permanent transfer or a loan with an obligation to buy for a fee exceeding €10million.
The Reds are also keen to delay any departure, with attacking options currently stretched due to injuries to Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike, who is nearing a return, alongside Mohamed Salah’s absence at the Africa Cup of Nations.
