Jaylen Brown is thriving in his role as the Boston Celtics’ primary offensive weapon. He’s having a career year and has been a mainstay in the NBA MVP ladder over the opening months of the season.

However, despite his stellar run, which has included a nine-game stretch of 30+ point scoring nights during December, Brown still isn’t seen as a genuine front-runner for the 2026 MVP award.

During a recent episode of the “The Draymond Green Show” podcast, the Golden State Warriors forward shared his thoughts on the season Brown is having for Boston.

“When he said, ‘I’m the best two-way player in the world,’ I get what he was saying, but he’s playing so great offensively that I don’t even know if he needs to talk about the best two-way player in the world,” Green said. “He should just be talking about who’s the best player in the NBA right now. Because that’s the type of basketball Jaylen Brown has been playing. He’s been up there right at the top of the NBA. I’m not sure how he hasn’t moved into the top three of MVP voting.”

In 33 games this season, Brown is averaging 29.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists, shooting 50.1% from the field and 36.3% from deep.

Gilbert Arenas Also Backs Celtics’ Jaylen Brown

Brown’s performances have earned him praise from all corners of the NBA in recent weeks. Gilbert Arenas has also weighed in on whether the Celtics’ forward should be in the running for an MVP award.

“I was wrong,” Arenas said. “He is the number 1 option. The fact that we’re not putting him in the category of best SG in the NBA, MVP chants, we need to give him the credit he deserves. We’re loud to call him Robin. Right now, he’s holding the Batman sign. When Tatum comes back, and they’re both together, we know who they are now. The discussion is over. I don’t care about who’s better. We know now they both can run the ship. Period”

The Celtics have consistently found ways to put Brown in positions to succeed this season. He’s repaid that faith by scaling his production to an All-NBA level, proving that he can carry the offensive load on a team.

Once Jayson Tatum returns from injury, the Celtics will be a stronger unit courtesy of the experience Brown is getting when leading the line this season.

Paul Pierce Has Also Shown Support To Brown

During a recent episode of the “No Fouls Given” podcast, Celtics legend Paul Pierce joined the growing number of voices to throw their support behind Brown’s MVP-level performances.

“Everybody hates the Celtics,” Pierce said. “No, seriously, why isn’t he? Nobody had the Celtics being in third place in the East with no Tatum. The guy’s putting up 30 consistently; there still hasn’t been nobody talking about him…But this guy has to get some sort of recognition. I mean, this guy is a 30-point walking bucket, and he should be in there.”

Brown deserves to be in MVP talks. However, he will face an uphill battle to crack the top three during the voting process. Still, he’s been defying expectations all season long, so it would be foolish to count him out.
