Suns expected to guarantee G Jordan Goodwin’s contract

The Phoenix Suns are expected to fully guarantee guard Jordan Goodwin’s contract on Wednesday, reports Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro.

Phoenix claimed Goodwin in July after the Los Angeles Lakers waived him. His contract came with a club option that had $25,000 guaranteed of a total $2.35 million. It was set to become fully guaranteed on Saturday, according to Spotrac.

Goodwin is averaging 9.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists with 1.4 steals in just 21.9 minutes per game. His steal rate of 3.2% is the third-highest in the NBA, and his physicality at the point of attack has earned him minutes in a backcourt that’s needed the depth with Devin Booker, Jalen Green and Grayson Allen dealing with injuries already this season.

The 27-year-old’s 37% accuracy on a career-high 4.3 three-point attempts per game represents the offensive improvements he’s made this season. Goodwin hit a career-high eight threes on Sunday in a win over the NBA-leading Oklahoma City Thunder.

This is Goodwin’s second stint with the Suns.

He played 40 games with them in the 2023-24 season after joining the team as part of the trade that sent Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards to Phoenix.

Goodwin was shipped off in a three-team trade as the Suns acquired Royce O’Neale midway through that season. Goodwin landed with the Memphis Grizzlies before joining the Lakers last season.
