Celtics vs. Nuggets: The matchup

The Celtics are among the NBA’s hottest teams with their four-game win streak and a run of eight victories in nine games, all without the services of superstar forward Jayson Tatum. In his absence, Jaylen Brown has averaged a career-best 29.6 points per night, good for sixth-most in the NBA, while averaging 31-plus points in December and January. Veteran guards Derrick White (18.4 ppg) and Peyton Pritchard (16.9 ppg) are in the same camp with career-best scoring marks in picking up some of the extra slack.

Speaking of injured stars, the Nuggets are still early in the process of moving forward without NBA MVP Nikola Jokic, who is set to miss three-plus more weeks with a knee injury. Denver has managed to stay afloat with a 2-2 mark in four full games Jokic has missed to maintain its hold for now on second place in the Northwest Division and fourth position in the current Western Conference standings. Last time out, the Nuggets beat the Philadelphia 76ers in overtime on the road (125-124), with Jalen Pickett (29 points), Peyton Watson (24) and Zeke Nnaji (21) all topping 20 points.
