Juventus and Napoli are believed to be keeping tabs on a Liverpool attacker

Out-of-favour Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa is expected to stay at Anfield and continue to fight for his place in the first team, according to reports.

Sky Sports News reports that the Italian international is the subject of interest from Serie A holders Napoli along with former club Juventus, who allowed the 28-year-old to move to Arne Slot’s side for just £12.5m in August 2024.

The Euro 2020 winner was Slot’s first signing as Reds boss, signing a four-year deal with the football club. He arrived with real pedigree having been named in the Serie A Team of the Season in 2020/21, but has so far been unable to translate that form into English football due to the strong competition posed by those in front of including Mohamed Salah.

Chiesa is likely to stay at Liverpool - report

Sky Sports News explains that Liverpool are reluctant to sell Chiesa this month despite reports of loan interest from Italian giants Juventus and Napoli.

The outlet explains that the club prefers to keep him this month and has ruled out the prospect of a loan move, stating that only permanent offers as a last resort will be considered.

Chiesa has 20 appearances across all competitions this term, registering two goals and three assists in the process. However, despite Salah currently being away at AFCON and the club’s dip in form in comparison to last season, he’s only started one league match this campaign despite largely remaining injury-free and available for selection for all but one fixture.

It’s an improvement on last season’s record of 14 appearances across all competitions, including just six in the Premier League. In his debut campaign he managed just two league goals including a consolation against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final defeat, but otherwise failed to make any kind of impact.

What next for Chiesa?

Chiesa has two-and-a-half-years remaining on his Liverpool contract and is expected to remain in and around the first team squad for the foreseeable future. He’s yet to prove he can be relied upon in the Premier League but has a golden opportunity to try and change that view while Salah continues to compete with Egypt at AFCON.

Once Salah returns, Chiesa is expected to be more of a squad player and will likely need to grasp any opportunity he’s given from the bench.

Chiesa is likely to remain on the books until at least the summer as things stand, although things could change quickly if Liverpool enter the market once again to try and sign another wide option or alternatively if Harvey Elliott is recalled from his disastrous loan spell at Aston Villa.

Elliott has played just five times for high-flying Aston Villa scoring one goal. He’s started one league match since arriving and hasn’t made a single appearance since being subbed off at half-time during a 3-1 win over Fulham in September 2025. Villa hold a £35m option to buy if he makes more than 10 appearances but that’s looking increasingly unlikely at this point.
