Lakers vs. Spurs: The matchup

After a stretch where they lost six of 10 games, the Lakers have shown signs of life with three straight victories over the Memphis Grizzlies (twice) and New Orleans Pelicans (111-103) and four wins in their past five contests. Last time out, Los Angeles improved to 23-11 on the season with a road win in New Orleans, in which LeBron James delivered a vintage performance with 30 points on 10-of-19 shooting, eight rebounds and eight assists in 30 minutes. Luka Doncic, who leads the NBA in scoring (33.7 ppg), added 30 points and 10 assists in the winning effort.

The Spurs return to their home court looking to rebound from back-to-back losses to the Portland Trail Blazers (115-110) and Memphis Grizzlies (106-105) while also trying to get Wembanyama back to full health. The young superstar came off the bench in Tuesday’s road loss to Memphis and made his presence felt with 30 points on 10-of-20 shooting in just 21 minutes of action after missing the previous two games with a hyperextended left knee. San Antonio goes into the second leg of a back-to-back on Wednesday sitting second in the current Western Conference standings with a 25-11 record and a 12-5 mark on its home floor.
