Cade Cunningham to miss 4th game, veteran wing returns for Pistons

DETROIT — The Detroit Pistons were already down two starters and now they are going to be without their star guard.

Cade Cunningham is out for Detroit Wednesday night against the Chicago Bulls due to a right wrist contusion. He joins Tobias Harris (hip) and Jalen Duren (ankle) as the missing starters for the East-leading Pistons.

Cunningham was initially considered probable for the matchup, coming off a major performance in [Detroit’s dominant win over the New York Knicks](https://www.mlive.com/pistons/2026/01/pistons-dominate-knicks-in-first-meeting-since-playoff-series.html), but he was downgraded to questionable in the afternoon.

Coach J.B. Bickerstaff declined to provide any information on the injury ahead of Wednesday’s game, including when the contusion happened.

This season Cunningham has missed just three games due to a hip injury in November. Those came amid Detroit’s 13-game winning streak so the Pistons are 3-0 without their star guard this season.

Last season the Pistons were 6-6 without Cunningham, however some of those were healthy scratches.

Without Cunningham, Jaden Ivey will draw his first start of the season. Since coming back from a season-ending leg injury and an additional preseason procedure, Ivey has come off the bench for Detroit.

In 21 games, Ivey is averaging 8.4 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in 16.5 minutes of game time.

Tw-way guard Daniss Jenkins should figure into the game plan as well. He’s proven to be a solid replacement when Cunningham has been unavailable. Jenkins is averaging 21 points and 9.3 assists in games where Cunningham hasn’t played.

Detroit will get back veteran wing Caris LeVert back after missing four games due to a lingering knee injury.

It’s been a start-stop first season for LeVert in Detroit, missing 10 games so far and often having his minutes managed due to the ongoing knee issue. He’s averaging 8.4 points and 2.8 assists off the bench for the Pistons.

Guard Duncan Robinson, who was listed as probable due to a left calf contusion, will be available for the Pistons, as well.

Detroit (27-9) looks to build out their winning streak against the Bulls (17-19), having won their last two. This is the third meeting between the Central Division foes this season, splitting the first two.
