Arne Slot has seemingly ruled Liverpool out of the running to sign Marc Guehi in January, opening the door for the likes of Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal to possibly maki a move for the defender.
Over the past few seasons, Guehi has really developed into one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League, and a player that many believe needs to take that next step in order to help fulfil his true potential.
The Reds were in talks to sign Guehi in the summer, but a £35million deal eventually fell through at the final hour and it seemed that Liverpool were going to make a move during this transfer window, as they have been poor at the back this season.
Man City have joined the likes of CHELSEA and Arsenal in the chase to get a deal done for the defender, and they have all now been boosted by the news that Liverpool will not make a move for the defender this January window.
When quizzed on his current depth at centre-back, Slot said on Wednesday: “Joe is back now, that is a big help. There is no manager in the world that will tell you he is completely happy with two centre backs.
“But you have to look at the bigger picture that we have signed an unbelievable talent in Giovanni Leoni who will be back next season. And that is how this club works. We have to do smart things.”
