Mikel Arteta and Arsenal continue to look to the future with transfer investment in youth stars.

Arsenal are expected to make a new and improved bid for Blackburn Rovers striker Igor Tyjon this month with the North London club viewing the teenager as a shrewd investment for the future.

The Gunners continue their youth recruitment drive which has seen a deal agreed for Irish midfielder Victor Ozhianvuna to join from Shamrock Rovers in January next year. Ecuadorian twins Edwin and Holger Quintero are then scheduled to arrive at the Emirates Stadium in August 2026.

Tyjon is thought to be the next player Arsenal want on their books. SunSport reports that the Gunners have had ‘multiple bids’ of over £1 million rejected by Blackburn Rovers in recent months.

However, a fresh approach is expected soon. The 17-year-old is currently on a scholarship at Ewood Park and has not signed a professional contract. That means that the January window is the last chance for the Championship side to cash in on the player.

Tyjon has made just three senior appearances for Blackburn Rovers - two cameos in the Championship last season and one outing in the Carabao Cup this term.

Speaking after his debut, former Blackburn Rovers boss John Eustace said: "Igor has been a standout young player since I have been at the football club. He had a fantastic pre-season. He's just played for England in the week. I was delighted to give him his debut today. He has worked, very, very hard. He's a 16-year-old boy and we have to remember that. He is certainly one for the future."

Arsenal to pay Sporting CP extra £1 million

The striker position remains a talking point at Arsenal. The club forked out £55 million for Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP last summer and the 27-year-old is yet to find his best goalscoring form in London.

At the time, it was reported that the fee could climb to £64 million depending on add-ons and Football.London report that £1 million of those extras has now been triggered. That comes after Gyokeres played more than 45 minutes in the 3-2 win over AFC Bournemouth last weekend.

Part of the agreement with Sporting CP meant that every time the striker makes 20 appearances of 45 minutes or more, Arsenal would pay an extra £1 million. Those payments are reported to be capped at just over £4 million.

The Gunners have another 18 Premier League matches to play, as well as Carabao Cup involvement, FA Cup clashes and Champions League action this season. That means that Gyokeres could rack up another 20 outings of 45 minutes and trigger further payment.
