Relaying his message to NBA insider Chris Haynes, McCollum expressed gratitude and appreciation for his brief and fulfilling run with the franchise.
“Loved my time in DC. Organization was great to my family and I," he wrote. "Michael Winger and Will [Dawkins] did everything they said they would and kept their word from the very beginning. Love the city and they’re doing things the right way over there.
"Excited to get to The A and get to work. Very familiar with their style of play. Love the ownership group and front office. Good group of players.”
McCollum was acquired by the Wizards from the New Orleans Pelicans in a multi-player trade last offseason.
He only spent over three months representing Washington, but McCollum has been a standout veteran for the young Wizards group. In 35 games with them, he averaged a productive 18.8 points, 3.6 assists and 3.5 boards.
As he starts a new chapter in Atlanta alongside Corey Kispert, McCollum is expected to provide added leadership for the Hawks as they'll aim to continue competing this season.
