The Trae Young trade saga has concluded, and it ended with CJ McCollum getting moved to the Atlanta Hawks.
As McCollum's Washington Wizards played without him in Philadelphia on Wednesday night, the veteran guard was clearly anticipating a potential move. Now, he's on his way to Georgia.
Following the big news, McCollum spoke with NBA Insider Chris Haynes to break his silence on the deal.
"Loved my time in DC. Organization was great to my family and I. Michael Winger and Will [Dawkins] did everything they said they would and kept their word from the very beginning," said McCollum.
"Love the city, and they're doing things the right way over there. Excited to get to The A and get to work. Very familiar with their style of play. Love the ownership group and front office. Good group of players."
The Wizards offered McCollum the shortest tenure of his career. The 34-year-old wraps up his time in Washington with 35 games played.
During that stretch, McCollum averaged 18.8 points while shooting 45 percent from the field and 39 percent from beyond the arc. He also produced 3.6 assists per game and came down with 3.5 rebounds.
The Wizards have been struggling in the standings all year, as expected, but the young group has shown a lot of promise with their development. Seeing where McCollum is at in his career, it's clear he wasn't going to be there long-term. Washington takes a chance on a multi-time All-Star in Young.
McCollum, joined by Corey Kispert, will join the 18-21 Atlanta Hawks. They have had an up-and-down season and are currently sitting 9th in the Eastern Conference after losing seven of their last 10 games. The Hawks hope that the addition of the two guards helps them get back on track and fight for a playoff spot.
