Liverpool complete first signing of January transfer window as deal for 'leader' quietly…

Fulham 2-2 Liverpool: Match Review

The defender has announced that he is joined Liverpool from Premier League rivals Burnley.

A defender has revealed that he has completed a move to Liverpool.

Noah Adekoya posted on Instagram that he has joined the Reds from Premier League rivals Burnley. The 19-year-old came through the Clarets’ academy, having been with the club since under-12 level. Last season, captained Burnley to win the U18 Professional Development League North title.

The Clarets announced that Adekoya signed professional terms at Turf Moor in October. Speaking to the club’s website, he said: Having been here for so long it’s a good feeling, and I’m so happy.

“Burnley feels like home, and I feel like the staff here have trust in me. It (my scholarship) was a great two years and taking on the captaincy helped develop my leadership and communication skills, as well as other things I wanted to work on. I’m looking forward to playing bigger clubs this season and it should be a good way to test myself.”

Academy Manager Chris Casper added: “We’re pleased that Noah will continue to be part of our U21s group going forwards. He showed real leadership qualities last season and that, alongside his performances and physical profile, give us the confidence that he can keep improving.”

Adekoya only signed a one-year contract at Burnley, taking him up to June 2026. And hailing from Liverpool, he has announced he has made the move to his boyhood club. The defender has uploaded photos of himself at the Reds’ AXA Training Centre signing terms with the caption: ‘God’s plan’.

Adekoya could be one of three new centre-backs who join Liverpool under-21s. The Reds are in talks with Austria Wien over a deal for Ifeanyi Ndukwe, 17. It has been suggested in the Austrian capital that the deal is already completed but Ndukwe cannot join the Reds until he is aged 18 because of Brexit rules. The 6ft 5inch defender helped Austria under-17s reach the World Cup final but were beaten 1-0 by their Portugal counterparts.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are also close to signing Mor Ndiaye, who played for Senegal at the Under-17 World Cup. Ndiaye, 18, represents Amitie Football Club.
