It has been a quiet start to the January transfer window, although that could be about to change in the coming days - even if Liverpool remains dormant.

Although there has been no shortage of rumors, there has been a real lack of notable deals being done so far, although Manchester City looks set to win the race to sign Antoine Semenyo in the coming days, with reports suggesting a medical will take place soon.

That crosses one potential target off the Reds’ list, and fans will be hoping another isn’t ruled out before the end of the window, although the latest claims on Marc Guehi aren’t all that promising.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the latest transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds.

Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace)

Manchester City is in negotiations with Crystal Palace for Marc Guehi, according to Fabrizio Romano, although no deal has yet been agreed for the defender.

Oliver Glasner looks to have opened up the possibility of Guehi moving this month after admitting that Palace would sell if the offer is right, but it’s City that looks as though it could take advantage, with the Etihad club said to be prepared to pay a fee.

Romano does mention Liverpool, as well as Bayern Munich, although he suggests both clubs are tracking Guehi for a summer move, when he will become a free agent. The Reds are said to believe that a January deal would be difficult to do, although it hasn’t been ruled out completely.

Liverpool.com says: This would look horrendous on Liverpool's part if Guehi ends up moving to City this month. At a time when the Reds need a new defender, the idea that they're going to sit back and allow one of their closest rivals to swoop in and nab him instead is baffling.

There is clearly some money available to sign Guehi - they wouldn't have agreed a deal with Palace in the summer unless there was. Liverpool simply has to make a move for him this month. Waiting for the summer is not an option at this point, not when City is sniffing around him.

Bradley Barcola (PSG)

Bradley Barcola could be on his way out of Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, L’Equipe reporter Loic Tanzi has told Ici.

Barcola has been linked with Liverpool, having been touted as a potential replacement for Luis Diaz last summer, although nothing materialized on that front. Nevertheless, the French international’s name has been floating around again recently in regards to a move to Anfield, and in particular as a potential successor for Mohamed Salah.

And it seems the Reds could get their chance soon, with Tanzi saying: “I think that Barcola will be a real topic next summer, to leave Paris Saint-Germain.”

Liverpool.com says: Barcola would be an interesting buy, but no doubt an expensive one, and after last summer, will Liverpool be prepared to spend big on another marquee signing?

The Reds could do with finding another winger, and preferably one that brings a bit more pace to the side, but not before one or two center-backs are signed. That has to be the priority; it has been neglected for too long now.
