Marc Guehi came close to joining Liverpool for £35 million last summer and Man City are now said to be interested.
Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has reaffirmed that Marc Guehi will be sold this month if a sizeable offer is lodged.
The centre-back is out of contract at Crystal Palace at the end of the season and it has been confirmed he will not commit his future. Guehi was on the verge of joining Liverpool last summer, with a £35 million transfer fee agreed. Despite undergoing his medical, Palace pulled the plug at the 11th hour as they did not feel they could sign a suitable replacement for their FA Cup-winning captain.
Guehi’s contractual status means he’s a player in demand as a free agent in the summer, with European powerhouses Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich linked. But there are suggestions that Manchester City could make a move during the January transfer window amid a defensive crisis. Josko Gvardiol has been ruled out for the long term, Ruben Dias will miss the next 4-6 weeks while Nathan Ake and John Stones have had their well-documented fitness issues.
There are sections of Liverpool fans who would like to see Arne Slot’s side make a renewed move this month to bolster defensive options.
Speaking after a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa, Glasner reiterated that Palace would be open for business but it must be at the right price. The Selhurst Park head coach said: “If the offer would have been high enough [last summer] and the club was fine with it and Marc wanted to go, then he wouldn’t be a Palace player anymore.
“Last January would have been the same. Every single player has a price where a club will sell him, especially when you are Palace because we are not at the end of the food chain in football.
“I think Marc will stay but if he says ‘I want to stay’ and a club pays massive money with five months left of contract, then any player would leave if you are a club like Palace.
“I’m sure our chairman will ask a very high price for him, let’s see. I don’t know if Marc wants to leave. Right now, when I see him playing, training, his commitment, we are talking quite often together. I think the fans can be calm. But you never know what can happen in football.”
There have been suggestions that Palace will demand more than the £35 million that they agreed with Liverpool to consider a sale of Guehi midway through the season.
