Manager mooted to replace Arne Slot at Liverpool eyes 'final decision' on his future in coming weeks

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has endured a difficult 2025/26 season, which has seen his job called into question.

After watching the harrowing 2-2 draw with Fulham this past weekend, fans called for Slot to be replaced in the dugout yet again.

It is not the first time we have seen the Dutchman’s future cast into doubt over the course of the current campaign.

Liverpool lost nine out of 12 matches across all competitions at the back end of 2025, and Slot seemed to be under pressure.

A few names were linked as potential replacements at the time, including Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner.

Reports coming from Austria mooted Glasner to Liverpool in late November, but no deal came to pass.

Whether Slot will leave in mid-season or the summer remains to be seen, but we should have a much clearer idea about the Palace manager’s future pretty soon.

As quoted by The Guardian, Glasner has spoken out about his contract at Selhurst Park and suggested he expects to make a decision in the coming weeks.

He said: “I think in the next weeks we will intensify the [contract] talks.

“Everyone gets three days off after Macclesfield and then we have to target four regular weeks and in those weeks we will intensify the talks and I expect to find a final decision.”

But even if Glasner does pen fresh terms with the Eagles, the door may well still be open for Liverpool, or another club, to swoop at some point because, as he pointed out, contract lengths mean very little in football.

The manager continued: “I can sign today, or a player can sign today, a contract extension and leave in the summer… The length of a contract in these times doesn’t say anything about your future.”

When Liverpool could sack Arne Slot

As fans are well aware, FSG are generally not reactive and don’t rush manager sackings.

Another club may have sacked Slot in 2025 during the aforementioned run of nine defeats in 12.

However, while yet to be confirmed, there has been a suggestion that Liverpool could change managers in the summer.

Speaking this week, Paul Gorst said: “It may be at the end of the season that there’s something [a change of manager]. I’m not sure.

“It depends on what happens now between now and the rest of the season, of course.”
