From Hungary: Why Milos Kerkez is a Liverpool flop, Arne Slot using him differently

Milos Kerkez has struggled at Liverpool this season because Arne Slot is asking him to do more than he did at Bournemouth.

That’s according to former Hungarian international Vilmos Sebők. He’s been speaking to Blikk about Liverpool and their Hungarian players today.

Kerkez is one of them. He joined Liverpool in the summer transfer window as part of their major rebuild for Slot.

The Reds paid €46.9m to secure him from Bournemouth, moving quickly and paying handsomely to secure the man they thought would replace Andy Robertson. So far, that money has not looked to have been spent well.

Milos Kerkez has struggled to adapt to life at Anfield, with the confident flying full back who shone at Bournemouth yet to really be seen. In his place has been a player who has looked hesitant, out of confidence and very much a problem.

It’s led to the summer signing finding himself out of the team regularly, as Slot has turned to Robertson to try and restore balance to a struggling Liverpool defence.

Questions are naturally being asked, particularly, where is the Kerkez who shone at Bournemouth? Sebők thinks he knows the problem.

“At Bournemouth, under Andoni Iraola, he had to run a lot on the edge of the pitch,” Sebők said.

“Slot is not asking him to do that. He has to adapt to the opponents’ play, do his part in running the ball and passing. That is not one of his strengths. But in recent matches it has been clear that when he gets into the area, his game also improves.”

Vilmos Sebők also spoke about Dominik Szoboszlai, and urged him to stay at Liverpool.
