Earlier today, Il Resto del Carlino reported Manchester City interest in Bologna’s Jhon Lucumi.
The Italian side are struggling to hand the Colombian a new deal, with his contract running out in 2027. The player’s entourage are awaiting an approach from the Citizens.
Bologna have now been quick to try and put out the fire around the Manchester City talk.
Rossoblu sporting director Marco di Vaio spoke to the press, and made it clear Lucumi will stay at Bologna in January.
He said – relayed by QuotidianoSportivo: “He is focused on staying here, to finish the season in the best possible way and help the team.”
Speaking about his possible transfer, the Italian said: “Then we will see what happens next year during the transfer market. But right now he is focused on Bologna and about doing well here.”
Manchester City could be an ongoing danger

Even if Di Vaio is confident about the 28-year-old’s situation, it may not last long.
Due to Lucumi’s contract expiry in 2027, Bologna could well be forced to sell him in the summer. They wouldn’t want to risk losing him for free closer to the end of the deal. The Rossoblu are known for earning major capital gains by selling some of their best players.
Last summer, the centre-back’s agent publicly clarified the player’s desire to leave.
That is likely why Bologna have been struggling to hand him a new deal. So if Manchester City keep monitoring the situation, an opportunity can come up for them soon.
Lucumi’s entourage would almost certainly be in favour.
