James Pearce shares what ‘senior’ sources at Liverpool keep saying about Arne Slot

Arne Slot has been unable to mount any sort of Premier League title challenge at Liverpool this season.

The Reds take on Arsenal in a league meeting on Thursday evening, knowing defeat will put them 17 points behind top spot.

Liverpool remain in the Champions League places for the time being, but that has not stopped fan anger growing.

A run of poor performances has seen some suggesting that Steven Gerrard should replace Slot in the dugout.

Despite all the fan unrest, however, it doesn’t appear as though the Dutchman is going anywhere anytime soon.

Senior Liverpool figures have empathy for Arne Slot

There was a suggestion early this week that Liverpool have no plans to sack Slot right now.

Now, journalist James Pearce has shared how senior Reds figures view the manager’s situation.

As per OTB Football, he said: “No, my information is his job isn’t in any jeopardy at the moment. And I don’t think it should be, Liverpool are in those Champions League places, despite the problems they’ve had.

“When I speak to people at Liverpool, senior people there’s a lot of compassion and understanding for a lot of what Slot has had to contend with, not least the tragic loss of Diogo Jota, you can’t just overlook that, and it’s impossible to quantify just how much of an impact that has had.”

Why Liverpool don’t need Arne Slot to succeed this season

Whether fans are happy with the situation or not, it’s becoming clear that FSG aren’t going to make a change yet, unless there are some really, really bad results.

The Premier League title is already out of reach, even if Liverpool beat Arsenal on Thursday, and changing manager now won’t impact that now.

It may have been a different story if Slot left earlier in the season, but that didn’t happen, and in reality, the remainder of the league campaign doesn’t mean an awful lot.

Liverpool can survive without Champions League football, so even if it looks like the Dutchman won’t deliver that this season, the hierarchy might not be in a huge rush to make a switch.

As finance expert Kieran Maguire previously explained: “They’ve got an awful lot of leeway, Liverpool, because FSG run quite a conservative ship, so that they’ve not incurred huge losses.

“So one year out of the Champions League is something which they can deal with easily, two years is imperfect, if it gets to three, then you’ve got a problem, but I think we’re a long way off that.”
