Gabe Vincent returned to the Lakers lineup after missing nine games and shared an encouraging update about how his body felt following the game. While the team continues to monitor his condition, Vincent said he felt good physically and is optimistic moving forward as the Lakers wait for Rui Hachimura to return as well.
Los Angeles Lakers saw a positive step on the injury front on Wednesday, as Gabe Vincent returned to action and shared encouraging words about how his body felt after his first game back.
Vincent appeared for the first time in nine games in the Lakers' 107-91 loss to the San Antonio Spurs. The guard had been sidelined with a lower back injury and was eased back into the rotation, logging 18 minutes off the bench. He finished with 6 points on 2 of 8 shooting and added 2 assists.
More than the stat line, the focus was on how Vincent felt physically after the game. The 29-year-old sounded optimistic while also stressing the need to stay careful.
“It felt good to get out there and get some run,” Vincent said. “It felt good to get back out there and compete, and play with the guys. Going through my minutes, handled them well. Body feels good so far, so I’ll take it.”
Vincent also pointed out that the next challenge will be seeing how his body responds after travel, which can be tough for players dealing with back issues.
“I’m confident I’ll be back. But obviously, we’ll see how the body feels after the flight but I think it’ll do well.”
The Lakers are monitoring Vincent closely as they continue to manage his minutes. This season, he is averaging 4.8 points and 1.5 assists in 21.3 minutes per game while shooting 33.8 percent from the field.
