Dominik Szoboszlai has expressed his hope that Mo Salah can resolve his issues with Liverpool and stay, having been “there for him every day” during his exile.
Salah is currently away from Liverpool, representing Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, but upon his return further talks are expected with the club.
That comes after he and Arne Slot settled their differences enough to restore the 33-year-old to the matchday squad following a one-game absence for public criticism of Liverpool and their head coach.
To an extent Salah’s future remains up in the air, and in an interview with Sky Sports, Szoboszlai pledged his support.
“It was not nice to see, but he is professional enough to handle this situation,” the midfielder, who is among Salah’s closest friends at Liverpool, explained.
“I never got involved. I was there for him if he wanted to talk to someone. I was asking him all the time if I can help somehow.
“I knew I couldn’t, because he would do it for himself. But I was there for him every day when he needed whatever.
“But he will handle this. He has the character, he has everything to deal with it.”

In Salah’s absence Slot has often turned to Szoboszlai as his starter on the right wing, but the Hungarian clearly remains best in an advanced midfield role.
And while Liverpool will be identifying a long-term replacement for their third-highest goalscorer of all time, Szoboszlai believes the No. 11 still has a lot to offer.
“Of course everybody hopes that he’s going to come back after the Africa Cup of Nations and help us again, the way he did last season,” he said.
“But that’s his decision and the club’s decision. So the players never get involved.
“Of course as a friend, as a team-mate, I love to play with him.

“I know what he’s able to do, he showed us last season, the best season he’s had in his career, we won the league.
“So I think he showed enough that he’s able to do anything.”
Salah scored a late stunner to help Egypt defeat Benin 3-1 in the last 16 of the mid-season AFCON, setting up a quarter-final against the Ivory Coast on Saturday night.
That of course rules him out of Thursday’s clash with Arsenal in the Premier League and he could miss a further three games in all competitions if Egypt go all the way in Morocco.
