Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta made a concerted effort to keep Leandro Trossard at the club before the start of the season, according to reports.
The Daily Mail claim that the Belgian international was keen to see his contract extended beyond 2027, but it appears that wasn’t something the Gunners were prepared to do.

In the end, Arteta managed to convince Trossard by securing him a pay rise without an extension.
It means that the 31-year-old’s current deal is still set to expire in just under 18 months’time, which is something that the club will need to address again soon, considering his form.
Trossard is the club’s joint top scorer
The winger has been excellent this season, and he currently tops Arsenal’s goalscoring charts, having scored 7 times in all competitions – the same as Viktor Gyokeres and Bukayo Saka.
Trossard still has a way to go before he surpasses his best total for the London club. In his first full campaign at the Emirates, the Belgian found the back of the net on 17 occasions.
Arteta has praised the Arsenal star on a regular basis
The Gunners manager has not hidden his admiration for Trossard. Speaking just last week about the forward, Arteta said:
“I think his level of understanding and consistency, he’s got ability. But the level of consistency he’s showing this season in particular, I think, has been exceptional. I think he’s really clicking with the team in every aspect of the game, and he’s a player that provides something different to what we have.”
If Trossard doesn’t sign another contract, there will be pressure to sell him this summer to ensure he doesn’t leave on a free next year. If he continues performing to the standard he has been recently, he may get himself that fresh extension he has been looking for.
