Luton reportedly agree loan deal to sign Manchester City starlet

Young attacker due to move to Kenilworth Road

Luton Town have reportedly agreed a loan deal to sign young attacker Emilio Lawrence on loan from Premier League giants Manchester City as they look to make their first move of the January transfer window.

The 20-year-old had come through at Everton as a teenager, making his U18s Premier League debut for the Toffees in March 2021 at the age of just 15, playing four times and scoring once, that in a 3-1 victory over Wolves U18s. The following year he made two FA Youth Cup outings, as he continued to impress in the U18s Premier League, with six goals and three assists from 18 appearances, also breaking into the Premier League 2 side, featuring four times.

Lawrence then moved to the Etihad in November 2022 aged 17, as he played in the U18s Premier League in his first season with the Citizens, scoring three goals in six games, opening his account in the 1-1 draw with Sunderland U18s. The new signing played twice in the FA Youth Cup as well, with two assists, while the 2023-24 season saw the Manchester-born player feature twice in the EFL Trophy, playing against Grimsby Town and Barnsley.

He also featured in the U18s Premier League and FA Youth Cup, but mainly played in the Premier League 2, scoring twice in 10 matches, while the attacker made his UEFA Youth League debut too with a brace and an assist in the 5-2 win over Red Star YL, going on to play four times in total. Last term, was his major breakthrough year in the Premier League 2, as he scored seven goals and grabbed seven assists in 18 matches while also playing in the EFL trophy twice as well.

This season, Lawrence has made another three EFL Trophy outings for the U21s, setting up two goals in the 5-1 thrashing of Oldham Athletic in August, also playing nine Premier League 2 games with one goal and two assists. The youngster has also played two Premier League International Cup U21 matches, scoring in the 2-2 draw with PSV U21s and 1-1 draw with Real Madrid Castilla.

Lawrence has been in action at international level as well, making his England U15s debut in February 2020, also playing for the Young Lions’ U16s too, before swapping his allegiances to Scotland. He has gone on to play for the U16s and most recently featured for the U21s, scoring four goals in the 12-0 Euro qualifying thrashing of Gibraltar U21s in October 2025, as he has played five games in total, with two assists so far.

The highly regard talent is now believed to be heading to Kenilworth Road as Luton boss Jack Wilshere looks to bolster his squad for the second half of the season, with Spanish journalist Fabrizio Romano writing on X: “EXCLUSIVE: Luton Town agree loan deal to sign 20 year old talent Emilio Lawrence from Manchester City, here we go! Jack Wilshere, instrumental in the loan move as another #MCFC Academy talent goes for pro football new chapter. Lawrence has already accepted.”
