Former Chelsea striker says he would start over Liam Delap and Joao Pedro in his ‘prime’

While there are a number of problems in the current Chelsea squad, the performances and output of their two new strikers has been cause for concern.

Joao Pedro and Liam Delap were brought in over the summer to replace Nicolas Jackson, with Enzo Maresca making it clear he wanted a new striker for his squad.

Both made an impact during the Club World Cup triumph, however will have hoped to produce more impressive numbers in their debut campaigns at Stamford Bridge.

Who does Rosenior NEED to drop after that? 😬

Chelsea fans have seen some underwhelming strikers throughout the years, however one who doesn’t fall into this category is Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

The Dutchman notched up 87 goals in 177 games for the Blues, and believes he was a good enough player to start ahead of Chelsea’s current options in his prime.

When asked by ESPN, the former striker gave an emphatic yes, whilst also stating that he would start for Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United in their current states.

Hasselbaink recently questioned Marc Guiu’s credentials as a striker at the club after he put in an underwhelming performance in the EFL Cup against Cardiff City.

Delap threatening to break out at Chelsea

As recently as last month, reports emerged that Chelsea chiefs were having doubts about Delap already despite him only joining in the summer.

However, his last two performances for the club have caught the eye. The striker is looking as if he is finally getting over his early-season injury woes.

Calum McFarlane has tipped Delap to prove his worth now after a tough start to life at Chelsea, and this could be massive in terms of turning around the club’s fortunes.

Liam Rosenior has previously worked with Delap, and will no doubt be looking for some familiar faces to make his transition as smooth as possible.
