Middlesbrough ‘agree deal’

According to transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano, Middlesbrough have reached an agreement with Chelsea over a permanent move for the 20-year-old.

A sell-on clause is believed to have been inserted into the deal, entitling Chelsea to a portion of any fee Middlesbrough collect for selling him.

Posting on X, Romano said: “Middlesbrough agree deal to sign Leo Castledine from Chelsea on permanent move, here we go! CFC accept permanent deal proposal with important sell-on clause included, all agreed with Boro. Medical to follow soon.”

What Lee Grant said

Terriers boss Lee Grant has faced an array of questions regarding Castledine of late and recently stressed the situation is out of his control.

"What I do put my stress and energy into is working with everybody, of course Leo included, helping him, making sure that he retains his importance to the team, and that’s how I’ll continue to play it."

Before moving to Huddersfield, Castledine showed plenty of promise during a loan spell at Shrewsbury Town.

He has shown he can cut it at League One level and his next challenge will be to replicate his form in the Championship.

Middlesbrough currently sit second in England’s second tier, six points behind league leaders Coventry City.
