The Golden State Warriors are rewarding De’Anthony Melton with more minutes after a string of strong performances. Melton was fantastic for the Warriors in their win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night at the Chase Center.

In his postgame media availability, coach Steve Kerr was asked about Melton’s performance against the Bucks and if it would lead to a change in his starting lineup. Kerr liked what he saw from his backup guard, but he prefers giving him more minutes off the bench.

“He’s been out basically for the most part of two years. So, we’re going to keep doing what we’re doing. Bring him off the bench, keep his minutes climbing. As soon as Rick (Celebrini) tells me he can play 30 minutes, then there’s going to be nights where he plays 30 minutes,” Kerr said, via NBC Sports Bay Area.

The four-time champion coach added that he doesn’t want to make any changes because they have won seven of their last 10 games. He doesn’t want to affect the team’s rhythm.

“We’re in a good groove. We’re playing pretty well overall. We’re solid, and Melt gives us a great option off the bench. And as you’ve seen, he’s closed most of the games here the last couple of weeks,” Kerr said.

Melton Drops 22 Points in Golden State’s Win

The Golden State Warriors began their eight-game homestand on Wednesday by welcoming Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks to the Chase Center.

Golden State took control of the game in the second quarter and appeared ready to pull away in the third period. They were up by as many as 17 points, but the Bucks kept on chipping away the lead in the fourth quarter.

Nevertheless, the Warriors held on to earn the 120-113 win to improve to 20-18 for the season. Steph Curry led the way with 31 points, six rebounds and seven assists.

De’Anthony Melton was Golden State’s second-best player in the game, finishing with 22 points off the bench. Jimmy Butler contributed 21 points, five rebounds and three assists, while Al Horford had his best game in months.

The veteran big man put up eight points, 10 rebounds, six assists and two blocks in just 19 minutes.

Warriors Homestand Gives Warriors Chance

Currently sitting eighth in the Western Conference standings, the Golden State Warriors have an amazing opportunity to catch up and possibly climb to a Top 6 spot. They have seven games left in their current eight-game homestand that began with a win.

Here are the remaining matchups for the homestand:

Four of the seven teams have winning records this season, so it’s not going to be an easy slate for Golden State. They continue to work on limiting their turnovers and increasing their rebounds.

It has resulted in seven wins out of the last 10, but they need to put together a string of consecutive victories to get closer to the No. 6 spot in the standings.
