New Chelsea boss reveals significant influence from ex-Celtic manager

The newly appointed Chelsea head coach, who has succeeded Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge, said the former Celtic manager was a significant influence during his playing years.

His father and experienced EFL manager Chris Hughton also played major roles in his development.

Rosenior revealed his admiration in his debut interview with Chelsea's official website.

He said: "Well, he would kill me if I didn’t say my dad.

"Obviously, your dad is your role model.

"My dad, when I was 15 or 16 years old, he managed Torquay United and got them promoted from League Two playing a style of football that I believe in."

Rosenior also acknowledged Rodgers, who was another key influence.

He noted: "Brendan Rodgers, who was here at Chelsea, really affected my way of thinking when I was a player at Reading."

He added: "I’ve had really top coaches – Chris Hughton’s humility – and there are so many different influences.

"Coaching isn’t just about football; it is about people, understanding people, and trying to get the best out of them.

"That’s what I want to do here (at Chelsea)."

Rosenior added the Chelsea head coach position to his resume, after serving in similar roles at Derby County, Hull City, and BlueCo-owned Strasbourg in France.

His addition to Chelsea marks his fourth managerial appointment.

His predecessor, Maresca, left Chelsea last week and was twice linked with the Celtic managerial role in 2021 and 2023.

However, the vacant positions went to Ange Postecoglou and Rodgers instead.
