Arsenal have reportedly joined the race to sign Marc Guehi, who is expected to leave Crystal Palace either in January or at the end of the season. The defender is nearing the end of his contract at Selhurst Park and has shown no intention of agreeing fresh terms. It has opened up a multi-club battle for his signature with Arsenal the latest side to join the party.
They are ready to rival the likes of Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Liverpool for the 25-year-old's signature, according to The Mirror. Seeing as competition will be fierce, the Gunners could get one over their rivals by including a player in any deal to land Guehi. However, given that Palace will be reluctant to sell their captain in the middle of the season, it would have to be worth their while.
Express Sport takes a look at four players who could move the other way...
Cristhian Mosquera
The man from Spain only arrived at Arsenal in the summer and has impressed when called upon. However, he is very much a deputy to the likes of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes and could benefit from more regular playing time.
Throwing him into the Guehi deal could benefit all parties if Mosquera moves on loan for the rest of the season. He would get valuable minutes, while Palace would be receiving a very good defender with the ability to replace Guehi until the summer.
Upon returning to Arsenal, he would be a better player with more Premier League experience under his belt in a win-win scenario.
Ben White
The former Brighton and Hove Albion defender has transformed into a right-back since joining Arsenal, but it should be remembered that his natural position is in the middle of defence.
As a result, he would be a decent choice to be included in a part-exchange deal that would see Guehi move to the Emirates Stadium.
White is no longer an indispensable asset for Arsenal and remains prone to injuries. Guehi would be an upgrade on the former England international, while he might relish the opportunity to play a starring role at Selhurst Park.
Myles Lewis-Skelly
The youngster has struggled for starts over the last few months, with Riccardo Calafiori nailing down the left-back spot under Mikel Arteta this season.
A loan move to Palace as part of a deal for Guehi would give him more chances to earn a place in the England squad for the World Cup, as long as he impresses.
He wouldn't be a like-for-like replacement for the Palace skipper but the Eagles could be tempted by the possibility of taking him on a temporary basis.
Ethan Nwaneri
Another option for Arsenal would be to send Nwaneri to Palace, either on loan until the end of the season or on a permanent deal with a buy-back clause.
He is currently being linked with Bournemouth, who are in the market to replace Antoine Semenyo after he agreed terms with Manchester City.
But a move to Selhurst Park might appeal to Nwaneri given that he wouldn't have to relocate away from London. Palace might also benefit from his talent and huge potential, even though he wouldn't be a direct replacement for Guehi.
