Birmingham City won 3-2 at home to Coventry City last time out. Striker Marvin Ducksch scored twice against the Sky Blues, whilst Lewis Koumas also managed to get himself on the scoresheet. That result has eased some pressure off head coach Chris Davies.

The Blues are now sat in 14th position in the Championship table after 26 fixtures. They are seven points off the play-offs behind Watford in 6th. The Midlands outfit are back in action this weekend with an FA Cup away trip to Cambridge United with a place in the fourth round at stake for the winner.

Update regarding Birmingham City summer target Kieron Dowell

Birmingham looked into the possibility of signing Rangers playmaker Kieron Dowell on a permanent basis last summer, as per the Daily Record. However, nothing materialised in the end and he stayed put at Ibrox. He spent the second half of last season on loan with the Blues in League One.

In this latest update, HullLive report he has now emerged as a ‘top target’ for Hull City. The report adds that a deal is expected to get ‘done’ at some this month. He has fallen out of favour with the Gers under ex-Sheffield Wednesday head coach Danny Rohl and is poised to leave for a new challenge at the MKM Stadium.

Dowell, 28, is out of contract at the end of the season and is due to become a free agent in June as things stand. He was given the green light to link up with Birmingham on a temporary basis in January last year and he went on to score five goals in 23 games in all competitions. The former England youth international helped Davies’ side win the third tier title as they went up along with Wrexham and Charlton Athletic.

The Merseyside-born man was snapped up by Rangers back in 2023. Things haven’t gone to plan for him up in Glasgow though and he has struggled to make an impact. He has found the net on just two occasions in 32 outings altogether and has found it hard to settle in.

What now for former Birmingham City man Kieron Dowell?

A change of scene to Hull would suit Dowell at this stage of his career. He is likely to get plenty of minutes with the Tigers as they aim to get into the top six. They are currently behind Watford on goal difference.

Sergej Jakirovic was picked as their manager last June. He arrived in England as a bit of an unknown quantity following spells at Dynamo Zagreb and Kayserispor. The 49-year-old has since made a positive impression in East Yorkshire though.

Dowell started his career at Everton and rose up through their academy ranks as a youngster. He went on to represent the Toffees at various different youth levels before going on to feature for their first-team five times. They also loaned him out to the likes of Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Derby County and Wigan Athletic before he was sold on to Norwich City.
