A change is coming to Sacramento sports media.
ABC10 sports anchor and reporter Matt George left KXTV and the “Locked On Kings Podcast” to launch a new sports talk radio show on Sactown Sports 1140 (KHTK-AM) and a new podcast centered on the Sacramento Kings.
“Heading back to SacTown Sports really is a full circle moment for me,” George said in a statement. “It’s where my career began as an intern back in college. Spending the last four years in television was the absolute right decision for my career, and now I get to return to host the mid day show, a new podcast, and help take the station to new heights here in Sacramento.”
George posted a farewell to the station and his Channel 10 colleagues on Wednesday.
“But the biggest blessing in my time at ABC10 was the incredible team that I worked with,” George wrote. “My sports partner, Kevin John, is one of the greatest human beings alive. He took just as big of a chance on me as anyone. Walked with me through every step of the way. He put up with me at some of my lowest points in life. Forgave me for my mistakes and times where I wasn’t the person I want to be. And he made it his mission to watch me succeed. I couldn’t ask for a better partner and friend, especially in an industry where ego, backstabbing, gossip and paranoia is common.”
The weekday radio show will air from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be co-hosted by Kayla Anderson. Anderson previously worked as a news and sports reporter and anchor, including time in sports talk radio at 104.5 The Zone in Nashville and television stations in Nashville; Columbus, Ohio; Tucson, Arizona; and Missoula, Montana. The show will be called “Matt & Kayla.”
The radio show will begin Jan. 12. The new podcast, which has not yet been named, is expected to release its first episode Friday, timed around the Kings-Warriors game.
George, a Sacramento-area native and Jessup University alumnus, began his sports media career as an intern at 1140, working as a board operator and producer. He launched the “Locked On Kings” podcast in 2017 and joined ABC10 in 2021. In all, he recorded more than 2,000 episodes of the podcast.
ABC10 is owned by Tegna, which also operates the national “Locked On” podcast network, allowing George to continue podcasting while covering Sacramento sports.
The move prompted a change to Sactown Sports 1140’s weekday lineup. Allen Stiles, who previously hosted “The Allen Stiles Show” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will join Kevin “Whitey” Gleason on “The Drive Guys,” which airs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
