Opinion: Marc Cucurella hang your head in shame after details of private Chelsea meeting emerge

Chelsea weren’t helped against Fulham by the red card to Marc Cucurella, which put Calum McFarlane right up against it from early doors.

Liam Rosenior needs to nip Chelsea‘s discipline in the bud if he is to have any kind of success at Stamford Bridge, as it’s been far too costly this season.

Callum McFarlane denied a discipline problem at Chelsea, but it’s clear as day.

The Blues now have accrued five red cards in just 21 matches in the Premier League, which is almost one every four games.

This has contributed to Chelsea dropping a league-high 15 points from a winning position.

But why does it keep on happening?

Marc Cucurella was involved in a Chelsea leadership meeting before Fulham clash

Marc Cucurella is one of the more experienced players in this Chelsea side, wearing the armband on specific occasions and taking on a leadership role.

But he let his side down against Fulham, and nobody can defend him.

This wasn’t the first time Cucurella had been sent off either, as Peter Bankes gave him his marching orders last season at full-time against Brentford.

And what makes it even worse is the fact that the Chelsea leadership group, which comprised of Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Cucurella, Pedro Neto, Enzo Fernandez, Robert Sanchez, and Reece James, all spoke about keeping high standards whilst the club are managerless.

The Daily Mail claims the meeting was held about moving forward together and not letting standards slip.

The Chelsea players need to look at themselves too

In his first interview, Rosenior emphasised that his role is both coach and manager, stating that management is about making sure the players have rules and regulations that they follow.

He is expected to introduce a stricter internal fine system for preventable cards, such as dissent or petulant fouls, which have been an issue with Liam Delap and João Pedro.

This will no doubt help, but it’s ultimately down to the players to switch up their mindset and think more clearly in situations, especially if you’re a leader at the club.

Marc Cucurella has been a reliable figure for Chelsea for some time now, but these rash decisions have got to stop if this club are to reach the heights that fans expect.
