Arne Slot's latest excuse for poor Liverpool performances is so tiresome - opinion

There’s no denying Liverpool’s recent displays under Arne Slot have been painful to watch.

Slot won’t be dismissed by the Reds anytime soon, based on recent claims coming out this week.

However, with their latest showing a drab 2-2 draw against Fulham, supporters want Liverpool to change managers soon.

The idea of bringing in Steven Gerrard on an interim basis for the remainder of 2025/26 has even been floated.

And when the Merseyside outfit likely lose to Arsenal this week, it is expected that anger towards Slot will grow even more.

Arne Slot is wrong about Liverpool’s performances

Injury issues have, of course, played some part in Liverpool’s decline this term.

But Slot really isn’t helping himself when it comes to winning back the fanbase, who on the whole have had enough.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES

Slot’s press conferences have become predictable. Mention set-piece goals, continue to compare his team to PSG for some bizarre reason, and point towards the nine-game unbeaten run.

However, his comments made to the media ahead of Arsenal might be the strangest yet.

Slot once again spoke about PSG and decided to suggest that, when discussing claims about Liverpool playing boring football, teams have changed how they are playing against the Reds.

As per The Guardian, he said: “I did not change our style but teams have changed their style against us. My football is Liverpool vs PSG. That is how I would love to have every single game but you need to have two teams to have an open game of football and not all these things [long balls and low blocks] that don’t make a game of football nice.”

Why won’t Liverpool follow Man United’s lead and SACK Arne Slot?

Yes, teams, especially those towards the bottom end of the Premier League, will set up deeper against Liverpool.

But when has that not been the case? Jurgen Klopp’s side were one of the best in the top-flight for years, and when Slot was on his way to the title last term, many a team did their best to nullify their attack by taking a more cautious approach.

Nothing has changed since last season, and if anything, some sides are having more of a go at Liverpool now, given they know the backline is much more vulnerable than last term.

Slot, despite his claims, has changed his approach to try to prevent the Reds from conceding so much, and for him to suggest otherwise is so odd.
