Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves is one of the best players in the NBA today.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are currently using Anthony Edwards as their primary playmaker. The Timberwolves have been linked to Ja Morant and LaMelo Ball, but it seems they would be better off finding a more affordable alternative.
Edwards is still growing into his role as a playmaker, though he’s sharing ball-handling duties with Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo.
NBA insider Jake Fischer reported on The Stein Line that the Timberwolves are not keen on going after high-priced guards like Morant or Ball. They prefer to keep their depth intact, which has been one of their best assets over the past two seasons.
“The Wolves have prized depth ever since they made the difficult decision to part with Karl-Anthony Towns to turn that contract into Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo. I’ve been told pretty emphatically this week that Minnesota is not only uninvolved on the Young front but also isn’t chasing any high-priced guards,” Fischer wrote.
So if the Timberwolves really want to acquire a solid point guard, the Chicago Bulls are one call away.
Trade Idea Sends Tre Jones to Minnesota
Zach Kram and Kevin Pelton of ESPN recently presented six trade proposals that would shake up the NBA. Fresh off the Trae Young deal to the Washington Wizards, one of the six proposals involved the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Chicago Bulls.
With the Timberwolves looking for a point guard, a Minnesota native might be the answer. Tre Jones is one of the most underrated playmakers in the league today. He’s also likely going to be a very popular player for the Timberwolves since he was born and raised in Apple Valley, Minnesota.

Bulls get:Rob Dillingham and Terrence Shannon Jr.
“The Timberwolves don’t need a big swing at point guard, as Anthony Edwards continues to develop as a playmaker. But a competent midtier creator would do wonders for a team with a hole at the position. Jones, a Minnesota native and brother of former Wolves guard Tyus Jones, fits the bill,” Kram wrote.
This move signals the failure of the Dillingham trade, though there’s a chance he could work out in Chicago. ESPN’s resident financial analyst Bobby Marks explained why acquiring Jones is a huge move for the Timberwolves.
Jones is signed to a three-year, $24 million contract, which could be considered a value contract. Marks doesn’t like the trade for the Bulls because Dillingham and Shannon are at an early career crossroads.
Edwards Discloses Concerning Issue
The Minnesota Timberwolves are coming off back-to-back Western Conference Finals appearances. They fell short against the Dallas Mavericks in 2024 and the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2025.
Anthony Edwards has been adamant about his goal of surpassing Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, but his recent remarks about the team were concerning.
“Most of the time, we don’t listen to the game plan. When we listen to it and execute, we’re pretty good,” Edwards said, via Fullcourtpass on X.
Ant-Man added that the entire team is hard-headed at times, but they play well if they listen to coach Chris Finch. The Timberwolves are currently sitting fifth in the West with a record of 24-13. They are two games behind the No. 2 spot.
