Chelsea are interested in swooping for an Aston Villa star according to reports

Chelsea have a new head coach at the helm and off-field change could inspire alterations on the field, too, as the new Blues boss looks to put his own stamp on the side in their aim to get back into the top four.

Liam Rosenior could only watch from the stands as his new employers were defeated 2-1 by local rivals Fulham on Wednesday, leaving the Blues down in eighth place. A run of just one win in their last nine Premier League matches – with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League directly preceding the slump in form – has left Rosenior with a lot of work to do as he attempts to build on the job of Enzo Maresca.

With Aston Villa flying high in third place, reports suggest that Chelsea have identified a Villans star as a leading transfer target and could launch an earth-shattering bid.

Chelsea preparing record bid for Morgan Rogers - reports

According to reports in Spain relayed by London World on Sunday, Chelsea are preparing a record-breaking £130 million bid for Morgan Rogers, who has been one of the stand-out players in the Premier League this season and is seen as a man capable of arriving at Stamford Bridge and elevating the Blues to reach new heights.

The prospect of Rogers lining up alongside former Manchester City academy team-mate Cole Palmer is certainly a tantalising one, not least because we might see some iconic ‘cold’ celebrations from the pair of them as a duet. It was Rogers who supposedly coined the celebration, after all.

The current Premier League record transfer is Alexander Isak’s £125m move from Newcastle United to Liverpool on deadline day last summer, with Isak’s severe fitness issues thus far serving as proof of the risks of spending such a huge sum of money in one go. Chelsea may, therefore, look for alternative methods to secure a ground-breaking deal for Rogers.

Could Chelsea and Aston Villa seal a massive swap deal?

Should Rogers arrive at Stamford Bridge, he would add to an ever-increasing list of wide forward options for Chelsea which will also soon see the addition of 18-year-old Sporting Lisbon winger Geovany Quenda next summer. It, therefore, only makes sense that someone must make way in order for Rogers to arrive.

That man might ultimately be Jamie Gittens. The 21-year-old talent only arrived at Chelsea in a £55m deal from Borussia Dortmund last summer but has so far struggled to make his mark at Stamford Bridge, making just four league starts and bagging a single goal (though a great one at that) at Wolves in the Carabao Cup.

Aston Villa were linked with Gittens before his big move to Chelsea and might be able to convince the England Under-21 youngster that Villa Park is the right place for him to take the next step in his career. Considering their current league position of third and with Unai Emery as manager, they would be able to argue a strong case.

Villa lack any natural left-wing options whatsoever and often play captain John McGinn and attacking midfielder Rogers on the flanks, with a key role in the Villans side set to open up if the former Middlesbrough man does ultimately depart the club. Gittens will feel he has the ability to grab that opportunity with both hands, opening the door for Chelsea to seal a player-plus-cash deal for Rogers which would likely leave all parties satisfied.
