Chelsea ready to make £26m offer to sign a "monster" CB, it's the end for Tosin - opinion

If there is one thing you can rely on Chelsea being at the moment, it's unreliable.

Just a few days ago, the Blues were being justifiably lauded for their impressive 1-1 draw away to Premier League title chasers Manchester City.

However, instead of building on that positive result, the West Londoners instantly undid it by losing 2-1 to Fulham on Wednesday night in a shocking performance that showed Liam Rosenior he has his work cut out for him.

Fortunately, Chelsea appear intent on bringing in some more players this month, including one quality international who could finally spell the end of Tosin Adarabioyo's time at the club.

Chelsea target monster Tosin upgrade

Despite having some seriously talented players, it's clear that Chelsea need to improve some key areas of the squad.

For example, aside from Cole Palmer, who is out of form, and Estevao, who's just 18, their wide options leave a lot to be desired.

However, perhaps the most pressing area of concern is the defence.

Tosin

After the likes of Reece James, Wesley Fofana, and Levi Colwill, the West Londoners' defensive options are seriously underwhelming, which explains why they are keen to add to them.

At least that is according to a recent report from Spain, which claims Chelsea are interested in Kim Min-Jae.

The report has revealed that Rosenior believes strengthening the backline is key this month and that the Bayern Munich ace would be the ideal player to bring in.

The good news is that, per the report, the South Korean international is available for a fee of around €30m, which is about £26m, and that is also the price the Blues would be willing to pay.

Therefore, given the reasonable fee and Kim's ability and experience, this is a move Chelsea should get done as soon as possible, especially as he'd be a dream upgrade on Tosin.

Why Kim Min-Jae would be the end for Tosin at Chelsea

The first reason Kim's arrival could spell the end for Tosin at Chelsea is his incredible experience and know-how.

Sure, the former Fulham star has made over 100 appearances in the Premier League, but his most significant achievement has been a Conference League triumph.

Moreover, his performances for the Blues in the top flight have left a lot to be desired, especially this season, with mistakes like the one against Leeds United directly costing his side.

The South Korean, on the other hand, not only has experience from a few top-flight leagues around the world, but he's also got experience of winning them.

For example, he was a key member of the Napoli side that won their first title in a generation in 22/23.

Then, a couple of years later, he played over 2000 minutes for Bayern Munich as they reclaimed the Bundesliga title.

Finally, when you compare his underlying numbers from last season - when he was playing regularly - to Tosin's this year, the difference is night and day.

According to FBref, the defensive "monster," as dubbed by journalist Jason Hanshin Lee, outdoes the Blues ace in almost every relevant metric, including progressive passes, key passes, passing accuracy, ball recoveries, interceptions, blocks, and more, all per 90.

These metrics show that, when given ample playing time, the former Napoli star is an incredible modern centre-back, capable of playing with the ball at his feet and more than happy to get stuck in.

Ultimately, with the price reportedly being what it is, Chelsea should sign Kim as soon as possible, as he would be a monster upgrade on Tosin.
