A three-team trade that would send Michael Porter Jr. to the Golden State Warriors, Jonathan Kuminga to the Sacramento Kings and Malik Monk and draft assets to the Brooklyn Nets could be in the works.

According to Forbes’ Evan Sidery, the Kings, Kuminga’s most aggressive suitor dating back to his restricted free agency, are “canvassing the market” for a three-team trade to offload Monk’s contract while acquiring the Congolese forward. And due to Golden State’s known interest in MPJ, Sidery floated the idea of the Nets getting involved.

“The Kings are canvassing the market to offload Malik Monk in a multi-team framework with the Warriors for Jonathan Kuminga,” Sidery reported on Thursday.

“The Nets are a team to monitor with Michael Porter Jr.”

Sidery noted that a possible three-team Warriors trade could look like the following:

Warriors would get: Michael Porter Jr.

Kings would get: Jonathan Kuminga

Nets would get: Mailk Monk, draft capital, salary filler via Warriors

Potential Warriors Trade Package

The salary filler from Golden State could come in the form of Buddy Hield, Moses Moody, or both, depending on the potential framework. On paper, the outgoing salary of Kuminga ($22.5M), Hield ($9.2M) and Moody ($11.6) would be more than sufficient for the Warriors, hard-capped at the first apron, to acquire MPJ ($35.8M).

Meanwhile, Monk ($18.7M) has two years left on his four-year, $77M deal, making it feasible for the Kings to acquire Kuminga without sending out additional pieces.

The Kings were reportedly very close to acquiring Kuminga from the Warriors last offseason, with the Congolese forward reportedly being guaranteed a starting role after his conversations with their coaching staff and front office. However, the deal fell through due to Golden State’s reluctance to take on Monk’s contract.

To Sidery’s point, the Nets’ involvement could change the dynamic.

Michael Porter Jr. to Warriors?

As for the buzz of MPJ heading to the Warriors, Marc Stein reported recently that the Warriors “internally discussed” the idea of pursuing the veteran sharpshooter, amid his career-best season. However, ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel noted that the Nets had no interest in entertaining the idea due to their lack of interest in Kuminga.

“Porter is one of the many options Golden State has discussed to this point, yet Brooklyn does not appear to have any interest in Kuminga,” wrote Siegel.

“There are also concerns from the Warriors’ end about the asking price for Porter. The Nets don’t appear to be willing to simply take the best offer for the potential first-time All-Star over the next four weeks. Reports surrounding Golden State’s internal interest in Porter were first brought to light by The Stein Line.”

Again, the involvement of the Kings could help faciliate this three-team blockbuster deal that could provide Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler the offensive ammunition they desperately need.

The Warriors rank 14th in 3P% and 19th in offensive rating, and could use a consistent perimeter threat like MPJ, who ranks third in made threes per game (3.9) this season at a super-efficient clip of 41.1%. He’s also an excellent rebounder and would fill another big hole for the 19th-ranked rebounding team.
