Arsenal missed the chance to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table after being held to a goalless draw by Liverpool on Thursday.
Draws for Manchester City and Aston Villa against Brighton and Crystal Palace respectively 24 hours earlier presented Arsenal with the chance to open up an eight-point lead at the summit.
However, the reigning Premier League champions produced a defensively resolute performance at the Emirates Stadium and, perhaps could have taken all three points had they had some firepower.
The result keeps Arsenal six points clear at the top of the table, while Liverpool remain fourth and two points clear of Brentford following a third successive draw.
A surprisingly cagey first half finished goalless, and despite the Gunners dominating the ball for long spells, it was Liverpool who came closest to breaking the deadlock.
Conor Bradley’s attempted pass for Jeremie Frimpong was read by William Saliba, but his back pass caught out David Raya amid a breakdown in communication between the pair.

The Gunners had their moments in the opening period, most notably through Bukayo Saka but failed to seriously test Alisson Becker who also showed great authority at corners.
