Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville was left fuming after Liverpool defender Conor Bradley was stretchered off after a nasty incident against Arsenal.
The Northern Ireland full-back was left stricken after attempting to clear the ball. Bradley looked to kick the ball into touch before awkwardly landing after averting the danger. The incident turned ugly when Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli threw the ball at the defender before trying to push him off the pitch for play to resume.
A melee ensued with the Brazilian, and Ibrahima Konate was booked for their role in the confrontation in an ugly moment.
Neville was left aghast by the lack of compassion from the Arsenal forward with the co-commentator left audibly shaken by the incident and actions that followed.
"You can't push him off the pitch, you cannot do that," Neville said, before branding Martinelli an 'idiot'.
"I am surprised one of the Liverpool players hasn't gone over and had a right pop at him. I think an apology is needed.
"I'm fuming with Martinelli, I don't know how a Liverpool player didn't go and whack him and take the red card. Absolutely disgraceful."
Liverpool denied the chance for Arsenal to move eight points clear at the top of the Premier League after their title rivals dropped points.
The top-flight leaders made a bright start, applying intense pressure on the visitors - who have been bereft of confidence this season - before Liverpool offered resistance.
Bradley had the best chance of the opening proceedings as he looked to capitalise on a miscommunication between David Raya and William Saliba but saw his effort rattle the crossbar.
Liverpool continued their push foward, reducing Arsenal to little joy until the dying embers, with Dominik Szoboszlai going close.
However, with the Reds left without Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike, Arne Slot's side lacked any clinical edge in the 18-yard box.
Arsenal had their first effort on target in the second-half with one minute of normal time remaining.
They came agonisingly close through Martinelli before the last kick of the game saw Gabriel fail to get his free header on target at the back post.
However, the encounter will be overshadowed by the gruesome injury to Bradley and the reaction from Martinelli.
The full-back appeared to roll his ankle before landing awkwardly and holding his knee.
The 22-year-old was stretchered off and adds to the defensive problems for Slot.
Giovanni Leoni suffered a serious knee injury on his debut against Southampton in the Carabao Cup third round, the issue required surgery and has ruled him out for the rest of the season.
Worries will inevitably be sparked over his involvement for the rest of the season. Already, the Reds are depleted at the back with Joe Gomez as the only senior option at centre-back at the Dutch head coach's disposal.
