Jonathan Kuminga #1 of the Golden State Warriors moves towards the basket on Nique Clifford #5 of the Sacramento Kings in the first half at Golden 1 Center on November 05, 2025 in Sacramento, California.

The Sacramento Kings are “canvassing the market” for a three-team trade to offload Malik Monk’s contract and acquire Jonathan Kuminga from the Golden State Warriors, according to Forbes’ Evan Sidery.

The Kings, who were the most aggressive suitors for Kuminga during his restricted free agency last year, reportedly still maintain interest in the Congolese forward, even as he has fallen out of Steve Kerr’s rotation since the Dec. 18 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Sidery’s report added that the Kings could target the Brooklyn Nets as the third team, due to the Warriors’ interest in acquiring veteran sharpshooter Michael Porter Jr.

“The Kings are canvassing the market to offload Malik Monk in a multi-team framework with the Warriors for Jonathan Kuminga,” Sidery wrote on X.

“The Nets are a team to monitor with Michael Porter Jr.”

The insider’s three-team hypothetical framework would see the Warriors send out salary filler and draft capital to the Nets, who will also absorb Monk’s contract.

Jonathan Kuminga Trade to Kings?

The Kings and New Orleans Pelicans “stand out” as the two biggest suitors for Kuminga ahead of the Feb. 5 deadline, per ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel.

“Despite Kuminga’s value clearly decreasing and teams believing they can acquire the 23-year-old at a discounted rate compared to previous years, the Warriors have been discussing several avenues with teams still registering interest in him,” Siegel wrote

“Among those teams, the Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Pelicans stand out as franchises that have held a strong interest in Kuminga since the summer, sources said.”

The report named the Chicago Bulls as a team “with some level of interest,” while citing recent reports that floated the Portland Trail Blazers, Washington Wizards and the Dallas Mavericks as other potential Kuminga trade suitors.

Warriors Willing to Keep JK: Reports

The Warriors are reportedly unwilling to execute a Jonathan Kuminga trade unless it makes sense to them, according to ESPN’s Anthony Slater.

Since Kuminga’s contract has a Team Option for 2026-27, the Warriors could let him walk this summer, and as such, aren’t compelled to move him by the Feb. 5 deadline.

“Team sources have said in recent days that they’d be willing to keep Kuminga past the deadline if nothing appealing enough materializes,” Slater reported on Wednesday.

“That could be a strategic posture and it’s certainly a risk, considering Kuminga — making $22.5 million this season — is currently buried in coach Steve Kerr’s rotation, having played 10 total minutes in the past month.”

Slater echoed other recent reports that the Kings remain “the most interested suitor” for Kuminga, a player they have coveted for over a year. During Kuminga’s restricted free agency, Andscape’s Marc J. Spears reported that Kuminga made up his mind about going to Sacramento after a Zoon call with Kings GM Scott Perry, assistant GM BJ Armstrong and head coach Doug Christie, who offered him a starting spot.

“He wants to go [to Sacramento],” Spears reported. “The Kings are offering a starting spot, as the power forward, next to Keegan Murray and [Domantas] Sabonis.”

Per multiple insiders, the trade fell through as the Warriors were unhappy with Sacramento’s package of Monk and a restricted first-round pick.
